How to market a song before release
The job before release day is not to post the cover repeatedly. It is to create recognition, context and a reason for the right people to care when the song arrives.
1. Define the campaign angle
Write one sentence explaining who the song is for, what emotion or situation it owns and why this release matters now.
2. Build repeatable content
Choose three content pillars: the song's story, its strongest musical moment and the world around the artist. Create several executions of each instead of unrelated ideas.
3. Prepare distribution and pitching
Deliver the master and artwork early, complete metadata, submit the Spotify editorial pitch and prepare outreach before release week.
4. Decide what success changes
Set realistic checkpoints for saves, completion, shares, profile visits and content performance. Decide what result earns more budget or a new variation.
Questions, answered
Before you build your campaign
How early should I promote a song?+
A focused four-week runway is useful, but a strong two-week plan is better than six weeks of repetitive posting.
Should I preview the whole song?+
Usually, repeat the most recognizable moments while keeping enough discovery for release day.
What if I have no budget?+
Prioritize positioning, direct outreach, collaborations and a small number of strong content executions.
